Piaggio

The Italian manufacturer, founded in 1882 by Enrico Piaggio, has never ceased to evolve. Originally a parts manufacturer for the shipbuilding sector, Enrico Piaggio decided to diversify by creating Piaggio & Co., which produced parts for the railway sector beginning in 1889.

Later on, Piaggio would add the production of parts for the aviation sector to his areas of expertise, as did many automobile manufacturers at the time.

The beginnings of Piaggio on the motorcycle market

In 1964, during the Post-war period when the need for mobility was in great demand, Piaggio split his activity into two major areas: aviation with the IAM Rinaldo Piaggio company, and motorbikes with Piaggio & Co. It was then that Piaggio would first taste commercial success in the motorcycle sector.

Then, in the 1990s, Piaggio produced two models which will forever remain great classics: the Sfera and the Hexagon, the latter being the brand’s very first maxi scooter. During the 90s, the famous Liberty model would also see the light of day and become one of the sector’s best-selling and most popular scooters.

An iconic and revolutionary model: the Piaggio MP3

Released at the end of 2006, this three-wheeled maxi scooter possessing 30 patents was something of a revolution within this hyper-competitive market. The real innovation, that of having three wheels, allows for maximum safety, stability, and unmatched agility.

This model would consequently be met with indisputable success from the moment it was launched. Sharing values such as innovation and safety, it was only natural that Piaggio would put its trust in Michelin to equip the original tires for the Piaggio MP3.
