Shorter Braking Time on Wet Surfaces

Thanks to new XST+ sipe technology, the MICHELIN Pilot Road 4 tire offers a 17% shorter braking time than its nearest rival* on wet surfaces, and 24% shorter on extremely slippery surfaces such as white traffic lines and pedestrian crossings.

*Braking tests on wet surfaces and extremely slippery wet surfaces performed by Dekra in July 2013 with new tires and tires already used for 3,000 miles, comparing the MICHELIN Pilot Road 4 with the DUNLOP Sportmax Roadsmart II, METZELER Roadtec Z8 Interact M/O, PIRELLI Angel GT Gran Tourismo, and BRIDGESTONE Battlax Sport Touring T30F sized 120/70 R 17 M/C 58W (front) and 180/55 ZR17 M/C 73W (back).

20% greater longevity*

With a rubber derived from 2CT technology that’s harder in the middle than on the shoulder, the MICHELIN Pilot Road 4 lasts 20% longer than the MICHELIN Pilot Road 3. Thanks to its MICHELIN XST+ sipes, it benefits from chamfers which limit uneven wear and tear.

* According to internal tests performed in 2013.

Slippery tires

PEOSL - April 11, 2020

Unsatisfied customer. Slippery in the summer (hot road). Don't stand for long (after 2 years and abt 15000 kms). Generally previous brand was more reliable.

Reliable choice

Pancho - February 11, 2020

I ve been riding the P4 as a factory mount on my BMW R1200R LC. I usually do 60% riding in mountain roads (lucky to live in the Canary Islands) very often in wet roads (yes the centre of thew island can be very humid for winter months) and the rest on highway/ urban traffic. It took me some time to get used to the feeling specially in wet conditions but with the time I won confidence and now I got used in the way the tyres convey the way the tyres convey the not always regular condition of local roads. When pushing the bike in road mountains the tyres will usually let you know in a very progressive way you are reaching its limit, almost in a pleasant way where you can start feeling the back drifting away and as you pull the throttle. As a next mount I am wondering whether to sacrifice some durability to win quicker response?

Excellent

Sports Machine - February 5, 2020

Pilot road 4 was my choice of replacement tyres for my GSX S1000 having used the pilot road 3's on a previous bike I knew what to expect from the new version. Flawless handling and sure footed in all weathers from summer to winter I don't think you will find a better tyre for the seasonal changes we get here in Britain. Looking forward to trying the Road 5 next when these wear out. I don't think I will be changing brands any time soon, Michelin really are on top of their game.
